Black, roasted and unpeeled, the seeds in this form are considered the most original form of sesame. They stand out due to their strong, slightly nutty aroma. Sesame seeds can be used to season and refine dishes, and as a topping they also provide visual variety in the kitchen.

Encyclopaedia
Originally from India and Africa, black sesame is now mainly cultivated in the Himalayan region around Nepal and Tibet. The perennials of this historically important cultivated plant grow up to two metres high. The sesame plant is also called the “oil plant”, and that already reveals a lot: the seeds consist mainly of unsaturated fatty acids.
Fun Fact
Two teaspoons of sesame seeds contain as much calcium as a glass of milk.
